Where We Be
We could happily live in Golden with its small-town vibe and fantastic access to both city and mountains. The town bustles with energy in the afternoons and evenings.

One Month in Golden, Colorado
|
It's been two years since we've spent any time
in Colorado and we've been missing our
friends something fierce. Since we're still
renting out our condo in Boulder, we decided
to rent a condo for a month in Golden instead.
Just half an hour from Boulder, Golden is a
fantastic little town in its own right. We were
pleasantly surprised to find our Airbnb rental
offered a lovely pond view right from the patio.
What did we do during our month here? Mostly
reconnected with friends, plus practical stuff
like car emissions tests, mail forwarding, and
health checkups, so there aren't many pictures
for this page. But we did take some lovely
hikes in the area, enjoyed getting to know
downtown Golden, and began the process of
learning how to cook vegan. That's right, we've
gone vegan since watching a video called
Forks Over Knives on Netflix while in Malaysia.
We're still learning the ropes, so a month in
one place really helped us get a handle on a
new way of cooking and eating. We're four
months into it now and still going strong.
One of our favorite features was Clear Creek, which cuts right through town. We walked along the path and enjoyed watching tubers and kayakers -- and even a paddle boarder -- navigating the rapids.
|
The paved trail along Clear Creek offers great hiking and it will eventually connect with the Continental Divide Trail
|
There's a whitewater park and kayak classes right in town. Watching people navigate the rapids in small, one-person kayaks made us want to try this.
|
This is a section of the paved trail on one side of Clear Creek. The log cabins and wooden structures are part of Clear Creek History Park which preserves original buildings from the old Pearce Ranch in Golden Gate Canyon.
|
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Golden Ridge Condominiums and especially loved the view of the pond right from our patio
|
The pond view came complete with resident Canada geese. We learned a lot about these birds with close-up views over the course of a month.
|
We went for daily walks around the pond and into the surrounding foothills. This is a view of our ground-floor condo unit from across the pond.
|
We also made good use of the indoor / outdoor pool and hot tub at the rec center just across the pond from our condo -- perfect in summertime
|
The interior was comfortable enough, and the $1,700 per month rental price on Airbnb made it only slightly more expensive than our Boulder condo which we rent out for $1,500 per month
|
His and hers sinks were a nice touch, and the full kitchen was a must as we learned how to cook vegan for the first time
|
Coors Brewery is right in town along Clear Creek, and you can take a brewery tour that includes free tastings
|
We sort of fell in love with the town with its quaint and walkable downtown, numerous restaurants and cowboy statues, and a sort of Western feel that makes it fun. We thought it felt like Estes Park but without the crowds.
|
Our condo gave us a green and peaceful oasis to call home
