Where We Be
This prospect north of Telluride is just the beginning of an amazing day
in Southwest Colorado. No captions needed  -- just enjoy the views!
Southwest Colorado in Autumn
There's nowhere quite like Southwest Colorado
in autumn. From the astonishing snowcapped
peaks to the bright yellow quaking aspens, it's
a sight to behold. We took this quick trip from
Boulder close to the peak of foliage season --
and a recent snowfall only added to the beauty.

Day 1: Million Dollar Highway. Our first day took
us back to one of our favorite Colorado places:
the scenic stretch of highway linking Ouray to
Silverton. It's a precipitous, winding route that
requires your full attention while driving -- but
there are plenty of pulloffs to enjoy the views.

Day 2: Black Canyon of the Gunnison. Between
leaf-peeping sojourns we revisited another of
our favorite home-state destinations: the Black
Canyon. If you think the Grand Canyon is cool,
wait till you see this one: with its super-sheer
walls, it's the deepest canyon in North America.

Day 3: San Juan Skyway. We saved the best for
last: the peaks near Telluride and Rico even
exceed the scenery along the Million Dollar
Highway -- and we happened to hit it right at
the peak of fall foliage this year. Free gondola
rides offered in Telluride only add to the fun.
