Where We Be
On our way home, we stumbled across what was once the Zoo de Palermo and is now a free Eco Park. Here we saw free-roaming
mara (aka Patagonian hares), tiger salamanders, and red-headed cardinals --  not to mention caged camels, giraffes, and buffalo.
We finished up with this indoor display of origami and kimonos
We spent a relaxing hour here, enjoying all of the little details
From red arched bridges to water features to bonsai to koi, this compact garden has it all
This really is an awesome little garden -- highly recommended
We passed this typical leafy street in B.A. as we made our way to the Japanese Garden
This small ship -- the ARA Uruguay -- actually managed to rescue the Swedish Antarctic
Expedition in 1901-03. It nearly capsized but returned to a hero's welcome in B.A.
This striking bridge in Puerto Madero is known as the "Puente de la Mujer"
(Woman's Bridge). It's said to resemble a woman's leg while dancing the tango.
The manger in front of the Casa Rosada remains empty until
Christmas Eve ("Noche Buena") -- a fun Latin American tradition
Antarctica Trip -- Buenos Aires
Anywhere USA to Antarctica is a long, long way
to go -- so the best way to stay sane is to break
the trip up into pieces. We stopped for two days
in Buenos Aires and another two days in
Ushuaia before our Antarctica cruise began.
Besides being less sleep-deprived that way, it
also let us build in a few "safety days" in case
one of our flights was delayed or canceled --
because the last thing we wanted was to miss
our actual cruise to the seventh continent!

Back in 2009, we spent several weeks in B.A.,
so we'd already seen the city well. That meant
we could just relax this time around and take in
a few sights we had somehow missed before --
most notably the delightful Japanese Garden
and the waterfront barrio known as Puerto
Madero. Otherwise, we simply enjoyed reseeing
the Casa Rosada, chowing down on choripan
sandwiches, and sampling Argentina's excellent
Malbec and Torrontes wines.
The Casa Rosada on the Plaza de Mayo was the
one historic sight we couldn't resist seeing again
We took a break from our usual diet and enjoyed delicious choripan
sandwiches -- hearkening back to our first trip to Argentina in 2009
Remembering just how
much we like Quilmes beer
