Where We Be
We took a northerly route from Colorado
to Maine this time for variety. The rural
scenery in North Dakota was surprisingly
pretty, especially near Jamestown along
the Sheyenne River Scenic Byway. We did
some chilly autumn camping in Duluth,
then had fun exploring Michigan's Upper
Peninsula. Fall colors were extraordinary
there, and small towns like Copper Harbor
and Manistique felt far removed from the
pace of life in most parts of the country.
On car-free Mackinac Island, it felt like we
stepped even further back in time with its
horse-drawn carriages and quiet beauty.
