Where We Be
|Kleine Scheidegg, Switzerland
Kleine Scheidegg is a high mountain pass
between Eiger and Lauberhorn peaks with killer
views in all directions. It connects Grindelwald
with Lauterbrunnen and is one of THE things to
do in the Jungfrau region. Hikes radiate out
from here in all directions. We had originally
planned to hike the trail down to Grindelwald,
but when we started down it we realized we
were heading away from the best views of the
“big three” -- Eiger, Monch, and Jungfrau. So
instead we decided to head UP the mountain
towards Eiger Glacier. This turned out to be a
great choice: we got fantastic closeups of the
snow-capped mountains and got away from the
crowds at the train station at Kleine Scheidegg.
Once the clouds started building, we headed
down the valley towards Wengen, where the
sun was still shining. The stretch of trail to
Wengenalp was especially pretty. The town of
Wengen itself is worth a visit and could serve
as a great base for exploring the Jungfrau.
