In October 2007 we sold our Colorado home of 16 years, threw our
stuff into the van, and hit the road. Just about everybody dreams
of traveling free and easy with few possessions and even fewer
plans. Here was our chance to make that dream come true. We
knew we were heading up to Montana then across a good chunk
of the country to Maine, but beyond that it was all a delicious
mystery. We had only the vaguest of itineraries, and we wanted it
that way.
For the next 8 months (Oct 2007 - May 2008) we made a big loop
through the USA starting and ending in Colorado. We spent New
Year's Eve in Colonial Williamsburg, saw the Outer Banks and the
wonderful cities of Charleston, Savannah, and St. Augustine for
the first time, and shared a delightful 10-day Southern Caribbean
cruise with my parents, stopping in such exotic ports of call as
Dominica, Curacao, and Aruba. We partied hard at Mardi Gras in
New Orleans, then crossed the Southern states, seeing Natchez,
Vicksburg, and Cajun country. The Hill Country of Texas got some
major attention before we crossed the state to Big Bend National
Park. At last we turned north for Carlsbad, Roswell, and home.
